Kentucky Academy of Science

Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) partnered with McNary Group to strengthen youth protection across its programming, including overnight conferences that bring adults and young people together. McNary Group assessed KAS’s existing policies, identified gaps in reporting and training, and built a complete youth protection framework: 11 documents covering youth protection policy, child abuse and neglect reporting aligned with Kentucky law, a code of conduct, supervision and event protocols, incident reporting forms, and background check procedures.

KAS now has a standardized, legally compliant framework with clear reporting pathways, formal supervision protocols, and staff training in place, replacing what had been inconsistent policies and limited documentation across events. A sustainable model for annual review and refresher training ensures the framework continues to protect youth as KAS’s programming grows.
