Kentuckiana Health Collaborative

The Kentuckiana Health Collaborative (KHC) is a non-profit coalition of businesses and healthcare stakeholders working to solve the complex health problems that face communities in Greater Louisville and Kentucky with the goal of improving the health status and healthcare delivery.

McNary Group has contracted with KHC numerous times over the years.

Project 1

McNary Group provided facilitation services for the KHC’s Diabetes Learning Collaborative (DLC) and Patient Voice Project. The initiatives focused on reimagining diabetes care through multi-stakeholder collaboration.

McNary Goup designed and implemented a patient voice component using key informant interviews. The findings contributed to the final summary entitled “Reimagining Diabetes Care Through Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration”. The report was co-created with KHC staff to provide recommendations to the community on how to advance diabetes prevention and care in KY.

Project 2

McNary Group co-created and facilitated a one-day retreat for KHC board members at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY.

The retreat resulted in increased board member engagement and ownership within KHC, a shared understanding of organizational mission and direction for the upcoming two years, and idea generation on healthcare affordability, quality, and equity-focused strategies to help KHC attain member satisfaction, operational effectiveness, financial viability, and healthcare transformation.

Project 3

In 2021, KHC sought to convene a Healthcare Equity Advisory Committee to research, plan, and act against racism in healthcare delivery. McNary Group assisted KHC with the design and facilitation of the Committee

KHC recognized the need to catalyze the healthcare system to prevent its own perpetuation of racial injustice and heal the harm that has been done, as this can only be accomplished through ensuring equitable healthcare moving forward.

The Kentucky Nurses Association and Have a Heart Clinic also recognized this glaring injustice and collaborated with KHC around shared priorities. Together, these organizations united over the need to bring community members and organizations together to develop a direct call to action to healthcare organizations in Greater Louisville. To fulfill this need, the Healthcare Equity Advisory Committee was formed.

In three separate meetings, committee members gathered to address research, planning, and action as it pertained to the focus areas and goals of the Committee. McNary Group facilitated the series of meetings from October 2021 to February 2022, in which the Committee reached consensus on eight principles to advance healthcare equity in Louisville.

8 Principles

  • Confront racism in healthcare
  • Address social risks and needs
  • Collect race and ethnicity data
  • Administer training and education
  • Eliminate race-based medicine
  • Foster diversity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Practice person-centered care
  • Prioritize high-impact health disparities

The Committee calls upon other healthcare organizations in Louisville to sign the Letter of Support for the internal implementation of the principles.
